Hi All,
We thought it was time to start a conversation for those of you who are now pregnant after having suffered loss or infertility. Often it can be hard to view yourself as 'just another pregnant woman' and you may go through similar experiences as others in the same boat. It is important to get some support throughout. Hopefully this forum can offer some variation of this for our members/future members. We've found a neat resource from "Resolve" the American National Infertility Association http://www.resolve.org/support/pregnancy-after-infertility/i-m-preg... which may be helpful to read. We encourage you to both share your own experiences and support fellow women by posting here.
Best wishes, the team at Fertility New Zealand

Re: Pregnancy after infertility

Hi there,
I wanted to write in this as I am 29 years old, and have just had a successful round of IVF and am currently 11 weeks pregnant. My husband and I have a 3.5 year old little girl we conceived naturally and since her birth, I developed PCOS and my husband also has complications which lead to us trying to conceive for the last 3 years. After numerous therapies, and treatments, we have finally had success with IVF.
At the 11 week stage I am currently at, I have told friends and family of our great news, however, I find that emotionally I do not feel pregnant and am not necessarily excited about being pregnant. I am by no means ungrateful or unhappy, I just dont feel the excitement that others around me do. Im sure by the time the little baby arrives, this will have changed, however I have found myself saying "the right thing" such as "we are so excited" etc.....
I cant truthfully say that I dont feel excitement and it has made me quite anxious about whether I will eventually feel that way or not. I also worry about how this links to post-natal depression etc.
In saying this, I also believe that after 3 years of negatives, set-backs and failures, I might be being a little bit over protective of myself by not allowing the excitement to creep in... The whole infertility process is extremely emotional and exhausting. Would love to hear if others have felt this way after treatments and finally having success. I am sure that what I feel is "normal" considering our situation, and I just hope that it turns into excitement as Im sure it will eventually.

Katie

Re: Pregnancy after infertility

Hi Katie, congratulations for your pregnancy. It’s probably just your hormones that playing the game for setting your mindset. It is probably still very unreal to you and it you are anything like me, it is very difficult to comprehend that there is a baby inside of you. You're' still in the early days of your pregnancy - except for the hormones, there is really very little you can feel real. I think & hope after your few scans and in second trimester when you start feeling those tiny movements, that excitement and happiness would come with that.

Finding out you are pregnant is huge news and life changing for many people. As your pregnancy progresses, I am sure things will change. If not, mention it to your OB in your upcoming appointment.
