Embryo Transfer
Embryo Transfer – Fresh
You will be requried to undergo an embryo transfer to have your embryos replaced into the uterus as decided between you and your Embryologist or Specialist.
There are limitations on the number of embryos individuals can have back at any one time. In New Zealand if you are accessing public funding and are 35 or under, you can only have one single embryo put back at a time.
If you are on a private cycle you can choose to have up to 2 embryos put back, however there are a number of things to consider when making this decision:
Live pregnancy rates are no better for double embryo transfers
Significant health related issues for multiple births should be considered for both the pregnant woman and the unborn children e.g. increase incidence of pre-eclampsia, prematurity, birth complications, birth defects, stillbirth etc. Overall about 20% of twins have some sort of problem or complication compared to 6% of singleton pregnancies.

Modern fertility treatment strongly suggests single embryo transfer.
Each decision can be discussed with your Specialist on a case by case basis.
