Without doubt there will have been many times when you have been afraid of “saying the wrong thing”, “tip-toed around conversations” and you may have even had a disagreement or confrontation with the affected person/s about this issue.

As a family or friend, the affected couple will often not be able to step outside and consider just how their disappointments, grief and loss can also affect those close to them.   Unfortunately this is not only human nature, but a very inherent part of the infertility journey.   The best thing you can do is continue to be patient and thoughtful, even though it will be hard, the couple will appreciate this in years to come.

For many, infertility literally takes the Number 1 spot in a couple’s life.  Although family and friends may not see this as healthy (and often is not), many times it is due to the unique fact of the type of journey that infertility treatment is.  Allow this to be.  No doubt the couple have been on many holidays to “relax”, have had some “down time” from treatment and been to counsellors.  Unfortunately the perception that fertility issues are taking over a couples life are often actually real – it does take over your life.
