Thawed Embro Replacement – TER /Frozen Embryo Transfer - FET
When there have been embryos frozen following in vitro fertilisation, they can be thawed and transferred into the uterus at a later stage.
This happens if you do not have a successful outcome on your first attempt or if you are coming back to try and achieve another pregnancy after previous success.
This usually entails several bloods tests to time ovulation during a natural cycle. In some cases it is necessary to control a cycle using drugs to prepare the uterus for implantation. Embryos are transferred into the uterus at the appropriate time, as they are in an IVF cycle.
The procedure is very simple and entails the woman presenting to the clinic (by appointment) and having the embryo replaced high into the uterus using a very fine catheter. This procedure usually only takes 10 minutes. A speculum will be used during the transfer process.
